The Three Areaa of Expertise for  Destiny By Choice, Inc. as it relates to Domestic & Sexual Violence are  as follows:
(1) Addressing the Role of Faith and Faith Leaders in addressing Domestic & Sexual Violence. We specialize in equipping them to recognize their biblical/spiritual and social responsibility in addressing domestic and sexual violence.  We offer a diverse menu of trainings from leadership to building a domestic violence ministry.


(2) We address the role of Faith in working with Perpetrators of domestic violence. We focus on the vital role that  faith and spiritual beliefs both informs and transforms perpetrators abusive behavior. We serve and address Men that are also re-entering society from incarceration preparing them to reacclimate into society with a healthy sense of self and respect for their partners.

(3) We specialize in bridging and coordinating services between social service providers, law enforcement, advocates and the faith community in addressing domestic and sexual violence

Dr. J.R. Thicklin is the President and CEO of Destiny By Choice, Inc. where he is empowering lives and shaping destinies of lives impacted by domestic violence and related abuse. He is a strong advocate and activist in the plight to end domestic violence and fatherlessness. Dr. Thicklin has been on the front lines as a trailblazer addressing and raising awareness of domestic violence for over 2 decades. His work includes working for domestic violence centers, teaching, making presentations, and educating in middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities. He has spent over 32 years in ministry empowering lives across the country.

Dr. Thicklin is considered a subject matter expert; his vast knowledge, passionate and charismatic delivery has made him a much sought after conference speaker, lecturer, presenter, trainer and consultant statewide and nationally in both the Faith and Secular Communities. He has worked with batterer’s intervention programs with incarcerated men within re-entry correctional facilities addressing, reducing Black Infant Mortality as well as Fatherhood. He has volunteered and worked for over 20 years with grass roots social services programs addressing parenting, mentorship and transformation. His passion and work with incarcerated Men in transforming their lives has been impactful and rewarding. Dr. Thicklin believes being a father is the highest honor and most prestigious title a man can ever have.  One of his more passionate position is his work with the Safe Return Initiative addressing Domestic Violence.  In addition to his commitment to Destiny by Choice, Dr. Thicklin serves as the Vice President of the Palm Beach County Clergy Alliance and is Lead Director of the African American Domestic Peace Project in West Palm Beach, Florida. 


Dr. Thicklin has received many accommodations including the Governor’s Peace at Home Award: Educating Children. He is a member of the Domestic Violence Council of Palm Beach County, the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) of Palm Beach County and the State of Florida Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team. He sits on the Board of Directors of the Florida Network of Victim Witnesses. He has been a trainer and presenter for the State of Florida Attorney General continues to be a much-requested speaker at the Annual National Preventing Crime in the Black Community Conference and the National Faith Symposium. His corporate trainings include subjects such as Cultural Competency, Diversity and Violence in the Workplace.


He has worked and consulted in collaboration with the Institute on Domestic Violence in the African American Community (IDVAAC) out of the University of Minnesota addressing issues of Faith and Domestic Violence in the African American Community including as a contributing author to a National Curriculum “Speaking of Faith: Domestic Violence Programs and the African American Church. Dr. Thicklin has appeared on many Television and Radio Shows including TBN-Praise the Lord, as well as he hosts a national radio show “Hope & Healing: A Journey To Wholeness”.


Dr. Thicklin received his Bachelor in Ministry from Southeastern Theological Seminary and an Honorary Doctorate Degree (DD) from Logos University in Jacksonville, Florida and is currently in pursuit of his Doctorate in Philosophy. He studied Psychology and Sociology at South University and the University of Phoenix. He is a Certified Cultural Competency Trainer, Anger Management Specialist, and Domestic Violence Specialist. Certified 24/7 Dad Trainer and Dr. Dad and 7 Secrets of Effective Fathering with the National Fatherhood Initiative and National Center on Fathering as well as Triple P Facilitator. He is the Founder of the programs “Father’s Lifelines”, Man Up Stand Up Against Domestic Violence and Man Up For Families and Destiny Changers: Raising Boys To Men.  He is married to his lovely wife Dr. Erica Thicklin and they share a beautiful blended family of  5 sons and 2 daughters and reside in West Palm Beach, Fl.
